The Church of Brethren in Nigeria, popularly known as Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa A Nigeria (EYN), has declared fervent prayer and fasting for God’s intervention over the high debt profile of Nigeria.
President of the church, Rev Joel Billi spoke yesterday at a press briefing to mark the 76th General Church Council at its headquarters in Kwarhi, Hong local government area of Adamawa State.
Billi faulted the recent approval of $800 million loan by National Assembly members, as failed representation for Nigerians.
He said, “We call on prayers and fasting across all the geopolitical zones for God’s intervention on Nigeria’s debt profile.
“Our legislators have betrayed our confidence in them to have allowed huge debt to have been collected.”
He advised the incoming administration of Ahmed Bola Tinubu to concentrate on addressing complex problems Nigeria faces when he assumes office, including insecurity and economic meltdown.
“I pray that God will give the president-elect, Tinubu/Shetima, the wisdom to revive our ailing economy, rejig the security sector and create employment opportunities.
“Nigerians have never in its history as a government been thrown into such an economic crisis as we are witnessing today,” he lamented.

He listed “failed purported currency redesign, incessant power outages from the national grid and rising inflation”

Earlier, Dr Rev Daniel Mbaya, enumerated that, the GCC is the highest decision making body of the church, where achievements and challenges of the past are reviewed to promote unity of the church.
