Following the gradual return of peace to the three warring communities of Ilobu—Ifon—Erin Osun in both Irepodun and Ifon-Orolu local governments, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed that the 17-hour curfew imposed by his administration be relaxed to 12 hours.

According to the release by the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the curfew has been relaxed in response to different security reports reaching the governor, indicating that the much-anticipated ceasefire is taking centre stage daily.

Accordingly, the Governor directed that the curfew be relaxed from 6pm to 6am daily, with immediate effect until further notice.

“So far, I am equally happy to say that the traditional rulers of the three communities and their subjects have been living up to the desired expectations in ensuring a gradual return to peace. This is good and heart-warming. I ask them to keep the tempo high in this regard.

“In the same vein, the new trend in the time frame of the curfew will also allow our children who want to write WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations to be able to do so without any form of hindrance, as we cannot let their future be mortgaged.

“However, I am still directing that the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps should maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance on any act of lawlessness.

The governor directed the 100-member crisis resolution committee set up by his administration in the wake of the crisis a few months ago to expedite their assignments to find a lasting solution to the problem.
