Consumers Paid N21,010 For 12.5kg Cooking Gas In June – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, increased to N21,010.56 in June.

This represents a 1.46 per cent month-on-month uptick from N20,709.11 in May 2025 and a 33.52 per cent year-on-year increase compared to N15,736.27 recorded in June 2024.

“The average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) increased by 1.46 per cent on a month-on-month basis from N20,709.11 in May 2025 to N21,010.56 in June 2025. On a year-on-year basis, this rose by 33.52 per cent from N15,736.27 in June 2024,” NBS said.

The NBS report said Delta recorded the highest average price for refilling a 12.5kg LPG cylinder at N23,108.44, followed by Cross River (N22,982.89) and Rivers (N22,971.27).

On the other hand, Yobe recorded the lowest average price at N19,000, followed by Niger (N19,242.48) and Jigawa (N20,025.94).

Index’s zonal analysis of the data showed that the south-south region posted the highest average price for the product at N22,179.08, followed by N21,623.86 recorded in the south-east.

According to the report, the south-west recorded the lowest regional average at N20,402.42.

The data bureau said the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG was N8,323.95 in June, up by 1.92 per cent from N8,167.43 in May.

 

The NBS said the price increased by 19.49 per cent year over year, higher than the N6,966.03 recorded in June 2024.

 

“On state profile analysis, Delta also recorded the highest average price for 5kg at N9,243.38, followed by Cross River (N9,193.16) and Rivers (N9,188.51),” the statistics firm said.

 

“Oyo posted the lowest average at N7,100, with Plateau (N7,200) and Yobe (N7,600) trailing.”

 

By zone, the report said the south-south also led with an average of N8,871.63, followed by the south-east (N8,649.55), while the south-west recorded the lowest at N7,960.42.

 

In February, Delta’s Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) shut down 19 illegal LPG and category D cooking gas outlets.

 

The agency classifies category D cooking gas as small LPG cylinders for domestic cooking.
