Court Remands Church Shepherd For Raping 13-year-old Girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded a cleric, Olorunfemi Adebowale, at the Nigeria Correctional Centre for raping a 13-year-old girl.

Adebowale, 25, was arraigned before the Court presided over by Magistrate Saka Afunso.

The prosecutor, Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on or about May 16 in Ikole-Ekiti Magistrate District.

Adebowale, a Shepherd at Celestial Church of Christ was alleged to have lured the victim and had sexual intercourse with her several times.

The offence, the prosecutor said, was punishable under Section 31(2) of the Child Rights Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

He prayed the court to remand the defendant as police investigation continues while the duplicate case file is forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Magistrate Afunsho consequently ordered the remand of the defendant pending DPP’s advice and adjourned the case till October 17.
