Crystal Palace have made an inquiry regarding the availability of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji. Although no official bid has been submitted, sources have informed BBC Sport that Palace are keen on the Swiss international.
It is believed that City would demand around £15 million for Akanji, who has yet to feature in either of their Premier League matches this season. The 30-year-old is also attracting interest from Turkish champions Galatasaray.
Akanji joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and was part of the Treble-winning squad the following year, starting in the Champions League final victory over Inter Milan. Earlier this month, manager Pep Guardiola indicated that City’s focus is on player departures, having spent over £150 million on six new signings this summer.
Guardiola remarked that it is “not healthy” to maintain such a large squad, stating, “People will speak with players and agents to find a resolution.”
Goalkeeper Ederson has been heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray, while Tottenham are in discussions to sign winger Savinho. City currently has four senior goalkeepers, with summer signing James Trafford starting both league matches thus far.
Ederson has been rumoured to be moving to Galatasaray, as has Akanji, though no agreement has yet been reached between the clubs. If City were to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain, Ederson would need to depart, but club sources deny that personal terms have been agreed with the Italian international. There is an expectation that Stefan Ortega will exit by Monday’s deadline, although there are no immediate prospects for his departure at this time.
