A community-based organisation known as Hadejia Advocacy has commended the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for intervening in the case of Walida, who was allegedly abducted by one Mr Ifeanyi Festus Onyewuenyi Okafor, a staff member of the Department of State Security (DSS).
The group described the rescue of the girl and her baby, who are now under the custody of the Jigawa state government, as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to protecting the lives, dignity, and welfare of Jigawa citizens.
The chairman of the group, Comrade Abubakar Babangida, stated this while speaking during a counter-protest held in the ancient city of Hadeja.
Abubakar reiterated their group’s commitment to continue supporting Governor Namadi’s administration in pursuing the case to its logical conclusion to ensure justice for the victims.
The demonstrators, however, faulted the protest stage by Hadejia Ina Mafia, describing it as misleading and misinforming, capable of creating public disturbance and unrest.
They also called on the leaders of Hadejia Ina Mafia to always take extra care while discussing or commenting on a sensitive issue, avoid politicising it or attacking the reputation of the Government.
Similarly, a Women’s group known as Jigawa Women Development Initiative held a peaceful demonstration in Dutse capital to express their delight at the role of the father and the leader played by Governor Namadi in the Walida Abdullahi case.
The Women group expressed their disappointment in the case and expressed their sympathy to the victim and her family over the inhumane treatment meted on her by the suspect
The women group then called on the general public to join in supporting the Jigawa state government to ensure justice is done to Walida Abdullahi.
In a related development, the Jigawa state Governor met with the parents and lawyer of Walida in Dutse government house and briefed them on her current condition.
This was contained in a press statement issued by chief press secretary to the governor Malam Hamisu Gumel , noted that Walida is presently undergoing rehabilitation at a medical facility at the expense of the Jigawa State Government, adding that upon completion of her rehabilitation, she will be reunited with her family.
Governor Namadi, during the meeting, also assured the family of the state government’s commitment to her full rehabilitation, continued education, and overall welfare.
