CSO Condemns EFCC-Air Force Clash

A civil society group, Close Watch, has called on government institutions to work together to resolve contentious issues internally rather than airing disputes publicly.

This statement comes in reaction to a recent altercation between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel in Kaduna.

Close Watch believes the situation could have been handled without escalating into a public spat.

According to the group’s national coordinator, Biodun Odele, the EFCC should have engaged directly with NAF leadership in Kaduna and escalated to NAF headquarters if needed, instead of immediately seeking public sympathy.

It stated that both the EFCC and NAF play vital roles in Nigeria’s security and should avoid actions that publicly embarrass each other, especially during the ongoing security challenges.

The group expressed confidence that the current chief of air staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has high ethical standards and would not tolerate disorderly conduct from his personnel.

In the light of this incident, Close Watch, urged government institutions to focus on harmonious coordination and resolve any differences through proper channels rather than airing disputes publicly.

The group stressed that this is particularly important as the country faces security threats that require unity.
