Yuletide, specifically, Christmas and New Year festivities, come with their own swags.

The booming sales of consumables, wears, toys, gift items, among others, by marketers, is one of the side attraction of this Yuletide.

LEADERSHIP findings have shown that, prices are usually fair in the first and second week of December, butby third and fourth week, the prices of the earlier mentioned commodities would have risen by 25 to 30 per cent compared to what they trade earlier in December.

Hence, as business owners and entrepreneurs who must be prudent in spending, it is advisable to do your shopping in the first and second week of December. This will not only curb your expenses, it will save you man-hours that you would have contended with, if you make late purchase.

Essence Of Early Christmas Shopping

A retail food item seller in Lagos,Mr. Chris Peter advises Nigerians to start stocking up food items at home.

To him, “this is the wise time to do, because as a retail seller, I am in a platform where all retail sellers in Lagos communicate. There is no day that passes where we don’t increase the price of some food items. I can assure you, it will definitely get worst this December.”

On chicken, a member of the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN), Dr Olalekan Odunsi said Nigerians will buy chickens at exorbitant prices during the festive period due to the high cost of production.

To him, “a lot of farms have closed down and only a few are available. So, the cost of chicken will be high this festive period and more so the cost of maize and soya continues to increase. So, with this, people should brace up for the high cost of chicken during the festive period.

Meanwhile, Nigerians who spoke with LEADERSHIP Weekend have complained of lack of funds to purchase food items at once.
