CVR: PRP Presidential Aspirant Raises Alarm Over Low Registration Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The presidential aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, Engr. Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley (YMK), has expressed concern over the low participation of eligible Nigerians in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Kingsley, in a communiqué issued on Thursday after an emergency meeting of the leadership of the YMK Nigeria Project Movement, said many eligible citizens had failed to take advantage of the registration exercise despite the two-week extension granted by INEC.

He commended the electoral body for extending the registration deadline to Sunday, July 26, 2026, but noted that the response from Nigerians remained below expectations.

The PRP presidential aspirant urged eligible citizens yet to register to visit designated registration centres before the exercise ends, stressing that voter registration was the first step towards participating in the democratic process.

Kingsley, who is challenging the May 25 primary election of the party that produced former Cross River State Governor, Mr Donald Duke, as the PRP presidential candidate, described the extension as a “golden opportunity” that should not be wasted.

“Every eligible Nigerian who truly desires positive change must understand that voting begins with registration. Without registering, there can be no Permanent Voter Card (PVC), and without a Permanent Voter Card, there can be no vote,” he said.

He warned that the future of the country should not be determined by a small percentage of citizens while millions of eligible voters remain disengaged from the electoral process.

“The movement therefore calls on young Nigerians who have recently attained the age of 18, women, students, artisans, professionals, farmers, traders, persons living with disabilities, and every eligible citizen who has not yet registered to visit the nearest registration centre immediately before the exercise closes,” Kingsley stated.

He added that the YMK Nigeria Project Movement believes every vote carries the power to influence leadership choices, but that such power can only be exercised by citizens who are duly registered.

“The YMK Nigeria Project reiterates that every vote is powerful, but that power can only be exercised by citizens who are duly registered. The PVC is not merely a document. It is the democratic instrument through which citizens peacefully determine the quality of leadership that governs them. It is the voice of the people expressed through lawful democratic means,” he said.

Kingsley called on Nigerians to use their voting rights to elect leaders who are competent, visionary, transparent and committed to placing national interest above personal ambitions.

“The emergency meeting also reaffirmed the commitment of the YMK Nigeria Project to peaceful politics, issue-based campaigns, national unity, youth empowerment, social justice, institutional reforms, and the principle of Nigeria First,” the communiqué stated.

The movement also appealed to political actors to promote peaceful engagements, avoid inflammatory remarks and reject electoral violence as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
