The Damina Sisters, founders of Neptune3 Studios and creators of ‘ The New Girl’ and its popular web-based spin-off series, ‘Best Friend In The World,’ have released a short film titled ‘Karma ‘ on YouTube.
The 18 minutes, 38 seconds short stars recurrent actors on the independent filmmakers’ movies as Ella Nwaneto (Pat) and Enwongo Martins , (Samantha) alongside Christian Peterside (William).
It is the story of Sam who is stuck in an abusive relationship with her cheating, live-in boyfriend. With a shocking betrayal looming close, Sam musters the courage to leave town and Will. But her freedom, turns into the bondage of another close to her.
Karma is written by Jeiel Damina, directed by Jemima Damina, with Scott Udoh , as production manager.
Discovering earlier on their interest in filmmaking and the very limited opportunities in the industry in Nigeria, Jesimiel Damina studied an undergraduate degree in Computer Animation, and a Masters in Creative, while sister, Jemima opted for double undergraduate degrees in Film, and Entertainment Business at Full Sail University.
Returning to Nigeria, they worked together on their first film The New Girl, an independent venture which they posted on YouTube. Shocked by the love and traction pulled by the film, they launched a spin-off series ‘Best Friends in the World, and began releasing episodes online under their production company Neptune3 Studios.
Jemima directs, edits, and produces under the label, while Jesimiel writes and designs their sets. Eventually, they co-opted their younger sister, Jeiel who holds a master’s degree in Creative Writing into the company.
Neptune3 Studios has 1.36 million subscribers. Karma was released Jun 22, 2024, and has 25, 480 views as at the time this report was filed.
