The chairman of Oshimili South local government area, Delta State, High Chief Kelvin Ezenyili, has flagged off a N50 million empowerment programme for 500 persons, with each beneficiary receiving N100,000.
Ezenyili, popularly called EKO, did the empowerment on Monday in Asaba, saying the empowerment also included the distribution of 220 bags of rice to all the wards of the local government, with each ward receiving 20 bags each.

The local government chairman who doubles as the Ikemba of Asaba noted that Oko community has not had it this good over the years and thanked the community for not relenting in its support for the government.
He stated that the community is a food basket; hence, its people are predominantly farmers and deserve dividends of democracy.

While commissioning the ultra-modern Oko Event Centre (EKO Project) in the Oko community, Oshimili South local government area of Delta State, he said the desire to build the centre was borne out of a desire for community development, infrastructural development, and developmental governance.

He noted that the centre had brought succour to the people as what was far-reaching for them is now domiciled in their community and at a standard level.

“We have decided to carry out this program to give the great people of Oshimili South a sense of belonging by creating a window of opportunity through democratic dividends of inclusiveness,” he said.

The first lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori in her remarks at the commissioning commended the chairman saying “that for this singular act more will spring up in this area.”

Oborevwori advised members of the community to ensure that they maintain the facility as it is theirs, urging all recipients of the dividends of democracy to share with one another.

The Onihe of Oko land conferred him the Ikemba of Oko kingdom in recognition of his good deeds to the people of the community.

Recall that in the last few months of his first tenure, the Azagba of Asaba conferred on him the title of Ikemba of Ahaba kingdom for his contributions to the growth of Asaba and its environs.
