A High Court in Delta State on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, rejected the bail application filed by social media content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba.

The court ruling means the suspect will remain remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre pending the conclusion of his trial over allegations of rape, physical assault, and the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.

Confirming the ruling, the pro bono legal counsel to the victim’s family, Awele Ideal, stated that the defence team had submitted an application for temporary release three weeks ago.

However, the prosecution and the victim’s legal representatives filed a counter-affidavit opposing the request.

After evaluating arguments from both legal teams, the presiding judge denied the bail application due to the severity of the charges and public interest in the case.

The suspect was transferred from police custody to prison on September 4, 2026, following the inclusion of official autopsy and toxicology reports into the case file by the Delta State Police Command.

Ogbonna was arrested in mid-July 2026 after the victim recorded a video documenting her ordeal and identifying him as her abuser before her death.

Police investigations alleged that on June 1, 2026, the suspect invited Agbro from Warri to Asaba under the guise of mentoring her in digital content creation, before lodging her in a local hotel where the alleged assault occurred.

The Delta State Ministry of Justice, through the Office of the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has taken over the prosecution to ensure an expedited trial.
