Delta Police Arrest 4 Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two firearms during coordinated stop-and-search and patrol operations within Asaba.

The arrests were made through separate operations carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Crack Squad.

In the first operation, which took place on April 23 at about 4:25 p.m., operatives of the RRS, while on routine stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu/Asaba Road, intercepted a 28-year-old suspect identified as Chinoso Igwemma.

Police said the suspect’s suspicious conduct prompted a search, during which one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him.

The Command noted that the swift action of the officers may have prevented a potential violent crime.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Delta command, the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation.

In a separate development, operatives of the Crack Squad, while on routine patrol in the Bonsaac area of Asaba, intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants.

The suspects were identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem, 30; Nwabueze Kelvin, 28; and Okonkwo Celestine, 30.

A thorough search conducted on the trio led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

According to the police, interrogation revealed that the suspects are allegedly linked to criminal activities involving the dispossession of innocent citizens of their belongings.

The police said efforts are ongoing to uncover the suspects’ criminal network and apprehend other accomplices.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies.

He stressed that the Command remains focused on dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
