Determined to get the original result sheets, enthusiastic members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday stopped the APC House of Assembly primary for Ekurede-Ugbori- Ugbuwangue ward at Ogiame Primary School, Warri, Delta State.

The prospective voters vowed not to allow a repeat of what happened on Monday during the senatorial primary of the party.

They lamented they were given plain papers as result sheets during the senatorial primary on May 18, wherein counted votes were recorded, only for them to see results from the party leadership later in the day, on result sheets bearing the APC logo and the results were contrary to what was declared and signed by the aspirants’ agents at Ogiame Primary School.

The APC presiding officer assigned to conduct the primary at Ogiame Primary School and the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) official, had to be escorted from the voting centre by community leaders, relations and associates.

The agent of Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, Mr. Tuoyo Ofuyaekpone, who addressed the crowd of supporters of Edema, declared that the House of Assembly primary in Ekurede-Ugbori-Ugbuwangue Ward, didn’t hold, because they resisted alleged attempts to manipulate the process in favour of another aspirant, Dr.Augustine Uroye.

Meanwhile, APC in Isoko North local government area yesterday conducted a peaceful primary election for the Delta State House of Assembly, with Engr. Orobosa Ashakah emerging as the party’s candidate for the Isoko North Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Local Government Returning Officer, Hon. Chika Awunzia, who represented the state party secretariat and collated the results, officially declared Ashakah winner of the primary after scoring the highest number of votes.

Awunzia described the exercise as peaceful, orderly and successful, noting that the conduct of party members and officials reflected the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent electoral processes.

The primaries were conducted across the 13 federal wards in LGA by various ward returning officers.

Officials of the INEC, journalists and election observers who monitored the process also adjudged the exercise to be peaceful and calm.

Party faithful and stakeholders turned out in large numbers at the designated centres across the local government area to participate in the primaries.

Speaking with journalists shortly after his emergence, Engr. Ashakah expressed appreciation to party leaders, supporters and stakeholders for their encouragement and support throughout the process.

“I want to sincerely thank our party leaders for their continuous support and encouragement, as well as everyone who has contributed to my growth and success,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support and goodwill.

“I thank God for making today possible, and I promise not to disappoint those who believe in me. By the grace of God, I will continue to do my best and make everyone proud,” Ashakah added.

Observers at the exercise commended the orderly conduct of the primaries, noting that the peaceful atmosphere reflected unity and cooperation among party members in Isoko North.

In Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, there was massive turnout of party faithful as recorded at Ugbomanta Ward 8 in Oshimili South LGA as supporters gathered to affirm the member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, (DSHA), Bridget Anyafulu, as the APC sole candidate in the party primaries.

Speaking shortly after the hitch-free exercise, Hon. Anyafulu described the direct primary process as transparent, inclusive, and people-oriented.

She commended the leadership of the party for creating an atmosphere that allowed members to openly participate in the selection of candidates.

The lawmaker, who emerged as the sole aspirant for the constituency, said the overwhelming support from party members reflected the confidence and acceptance she enjoys among her constituents.

Hon. Anyafulu also praised the conduct of the primaries, noting that the process reduced unnecessary financial pressure on aspirants while giving ordinary party members the opportunity to freely choose their preferred candidate.

According to her, the exercise was a strong indication that democracy in Nigeria continues to improve, adding that active participation by the people remains the foundation of credible leadership.

Speaking on expectations ahead of another tenure, the lawmaker assured constituents that lessons learned during her first term would enable her deliver improved representation and better results.
