Following the large number of patients seeking medical treatment at the Edo State-owned Specialists Hospital, the deputy governor, Dennis Idahosa, has said in line with campaign promises of Governor Monday Okpebholo, the facility would be expanded to meet the need of the people.

Idahosa expressed satisfaction with the quality of facilities at the hospital, noting that healthcare delivery remains top priority of the state government.

He noted this in a statement by his chief press secretary, Friday Aghedo. The deputy governor who embarked on an inspection tour of the hospital stressed that the expansion is meant to take care of the immediate and future health needs of the growing population of the state.

The deputy governor who was taken round the treatment rooms, wards, clinics, the molecular laboratory, as well as the VIP section and the Premium Lounge structured for busy executives, commended the hospital’s management for the standard.

He also inspected the hospital’s ongoing projects while listening to the challenges of managing the hospital, and assured the management of taking his findings as well as their complaints to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

“By the grace of God, Edo Specialist Hospital will be transformed, inline with our campaign promises to Edo people.”

On the need for expansion, Idahosa said, “You can see the overwhelming number of patients at the hospital.

“This call for the need for expansion to take care of this huge number and also the fact that the population is growing on a daily basis.”

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Oshiomhole, said that the ministry had employed the services of quite a number of medical personnel, including medical doctors, since the present administration came on board.

Represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Stanley Ehiarimwian, the commissioner, said the state has also made the issue of training medical professionals a priority.
