The leadership of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) has hailed the judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja confirming Dr Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie as its candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election billed for September 21, 2024.
A statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Afuye Olusola, yesterday said Justice Emeka Nwite of Court 9, Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, ruled that the primary election that produced Aikoriogie as the NRM candidate was conducted following the party’s constitution and the electoral guidelines.
He said the judgement dismissed a petition by one Mr Cosmos Odion Irabor challenging the authenticity of the primaries.
According to the party leadership, the judgment will correct the earlier misunderstanding that orchestrated Aikoriogie’s exclusion from the candidates’ list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Without mincing words, the NRM leadership and its entire members worldwide are happy with the judgement of Justice Nwite, seeing it as a welcome development and a victory for democracy,” the statement said.
The statement reads in part, “In the spirit of the founding principles of our great party, we are saying ‘no victor and no vanquish.’ Our unity remains unbroken. We are now more focused and looking forward to victory in the forthcoming Edo election. The NRM will stop at nothing to rescue Edo State from the shackles of the bad leadership that has crippled the socio-economic progress of the heartbeat State.
“The party congratulates Dr. Dennis Aikoriogie, the National Rescue Movement family, the entire people of Edo State, citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Democracy on this victory.”
