Fortunate Anozie, at the age of 24, co-founded Unyte Africa in March 2022 with a vision to create a positive impact on the lives of Africans through innovative technology. Unyte Africa is an innovative Insurtech company on a mission to revolutionize the insurance sector by leveraging technology to connect insurers with everyday Nigerians.

Fortunate’s passion for technology was evident from a young age, and he embraced it wholeheartedly. He delved into various IT essentials, cybersecurity, and even ventured into Linux systems at the age of 11. This early exposure to technology laid the foundation for his future endeavors. While pursuing a degree in petroleum and gas engineering at the University of Lagos, he couldn’t resist the allure of entrepreneurship. Fortunate founded Anozie Stores, an e-commerce business that quickly gained popularity across Nigerian universities, showcasing his entrepreneurial flair. He has also spoken about how this business shaped his perspectives on business; “Anozie Stores was a significant learning experience for me. It taught me valuable lessons about building and scaling a business, understanding customer needs, and delivering exceptional service. Through this venture, I discovered my passion for empowering people through technology. The experience has been instrumental in shaping my entrepreneurial journey and has instilled in me a commitment to excellence.’’ This move allowed him merge his technical skills with an entrepreneurial drive.

Unyte Africa’s mission is rooted in improving lives in Africa by making insurance accessible and relevant to everyday Nigerians. Building Unyte Africa presented its share of challenges, with one significant hurdle being the negative perception of insurance in Nigeria. Many viewed insurance as a secondary concern, with some relying solely on faith to protect them from adverse events. Unyte Africa addressed these obstacles by adopting an innovative approach. By connecting with banks and insurance institutions using APIs, the company tapped into an existing user base of financially included individuals who use smartphones. This strategic move created a strong foundation for expanding insurance adoption and accessibility.

Fortunate’s strategic vision led Unyte Africa to form partnerships with prominent insurance companies like AXA Mansard, Leadway Assurance, Tangerine, Sovereign Trust, Heirs Life & Heirs General, Universal Insurance, and Staco Plc. These collaborations provide Unyte Africa with the necessary APIs to integrate into their banking partners’ platforms, expanding their reach and impact.

“My passion for technology and the desire to make a positive impact in people’s lives keep me motivated. I thrive on challenges and the opportunity to solve complex problems through innovative solutions. As a young leader, I believe in the transformative power of technology and its ability to reshape industries and societies for the better.” Fortunate said in an interview.

Looking ahead, Unyte Africa has ambitious plans for growth. Fortunate aims to onboard more financial institutions and expand their services to tertiary institutions, particularly in the education sector. The vision is to seamlessly integrate insurance into the lives of every Nigerian, providing them with the protection they need to thrive.

Fortunate’s journey from a young tech enthusiast to a visionary entrepreneur leading the charge in Nigeria’s tech and insurance industry is a testament to the transformative power of passion and perseverance. Through Unyte Africa, he is empowering Nigeria’s insurance sector and making a meaningful impact on the lives of millions. As Fortunate continues to innovate and strive for excellence, his dedication to technology and creating positive change in Africa’s digital landscape will undoubtedly shape a brighter future for the continent and its people.
