An entrepreneur, Dr. Nwagbo Barnabas, has called on the people of Rivers State to cooperate with Governor Siminalayi Fubara to enable him to discharge his constitutional duties effectively.
He also urged Nigerian political leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and implement measures to revive and strengthen the economy.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, Barnabas congratulated Governor Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on their resumption of office following the expiration of the six-month state of emergency in the state.
The entrepreneur encouraged both the executive and legislative arms of government to work in unity for the development and progress of the state.
Barnabas further enjoined the governor to remain focused on governance and treat all citizens equally, regardless of their political or religious affiliations.
He urged Governor Fubara, lawmakers, and all parties involved in the prolonged political crisis which led to the suspension of democratic institutions and the declaration of a state of emergency ,to apply the lessons learned toward promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
“I advise Governor Fubara to rebuild trust and continue rebuilding relationships with stakeholders, including the public, officials, and partners.
“I congratulate and welcome them all back to their respective offices. What happened in Rivers State in the last six months wasn’t really a good experience for the state, her economy, and her citizens.
“Now that the crisis is over, the emergency rule has ended, their suspension lifted, and they are back to their positions, I urge our amiable governor, the House of Assembly members, and all parties to the crisis that brought the state to where we are now to learn from past experiences by reflecting on the circumstances that led to the unfortunate developments and use those lessons to improve governance.
“They should prioritise transparency and accountability, ensuring openness in decision-making and actions to maintain public trust,” he added.
