Everton Eye Historic Double As Man United Visit

Everton welcome Manchester United to Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night with history on their minds. Having edged the reverse fixture 1-0 at Old Trafford back in November, the Toffees now chase a rare league double over United—something they’ve only managed once before, in 2013-14, when David Moyes was in the opposite dugout.

United, though, arrive with records and momentum firmly on their side. No team has beaten Everton more often in Premier League history, with the Red Devils boasting 42 wins overall and 19 away victories against the Merseyside club.

Michael Carrick’s side are unbeaten in nine league matches (W5 D4), the longest run since their 14-game streak in 2021, and remain the only team yet to lose in 2026. Their attacking intent is clear: United lead the league in total shots (417), averaging 16 per game—their highest since 2011-12.

Everton’s home form tells a different story. Five defeats in their last nine at Goodison (W2 D2) highlight their inconsistency, a sharp contrast to the resilience they showed earlier in the campaign. Their attacking output has also been modest, averaging just 3.3 shots on target per game—one of their lowest tallies in Premier League history.

Still, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s winner at Old Trafford proved they can strike when it matters, and he’ll look to repeat Andy King’s feat from 1978-79 as the last Englishman to score in both league meetings with United in a single season.

There’s added intrigue in the dugout. Carrick once played under Moyes during the 2013-14 campaign, and now joins Mikel Arteta and David Unsworth as managers who’ve faced their former boss in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, continues to be United’s creative heartbeat—directly involved in 10 goals across his last nine away appearances, with his eight assists equalling Ryan Giggs’ single-season record from 2001-02.

With Everton chasing history and United chasing perfection, Monday night at Goodison promises a clash of ambition, resilience, and narrative.
