A former Abia State Governor Theodore Orji has commended the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu for what he described as exceptional performance at the National Assembly.
Orji, a Senator who represented Abia Central Senatorial District of Abia State in the 8th and 9th Assemblies, said this when Kalu paid him a New Year courtesy visit in his Umuahia residence at the weekend.
He lauded Kalu’s contributions to national development, adding that it is a collective responsibility of all Abians to ensure that Abia State runs effectively.
Orji said: “God will bless you for this visit. It shall be well with you. Abia is our state, it’s our collective responsibility to ensure that our state works above other states. Alphabetically, we are number one.
“You’re doing well at the National Assembly. I welcome you to my house, and those that came with you. It shall be well with you. I wish you long life and prosperity in Jesus name, Amen.”
Earlier in his remarks, the deputy speaker Kalu who represents Bende federal constituency of Abia state congratulated Orji on his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his cooperation was needed to help build both the State and the country together.
“We believe in building the community, the states that build the nation.
The nation doesn’t stand on his own, it rests on the structure of the states and local government and the community.
“And that’s what Mr. President has encouraged us to do, to reach out to elder statesmen like you. Thank you for the services you rendered to this country. He appreciates roles people like you play in national cohesion in unity, peace.
“Mr. President was also very happy when he heard the news that you joined the All Progressive Congress. I am happy you joined APC. We are going to leverage your wealth of experience and spread of contacts and loyalty base. We are so blessed, thank you for joining Mr President. We will work together. We will always come to you for advice and guidance”, Kalu said.
