Ex-IGP Supports Pregnant Women In Nasarawa, Distributes Campaign Vehicles

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State and former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Abubakar Adamu, has concluded a free medical outreach for pregnant women across the 147 wards of the state while distributing motorcycles and vehicles to members of his campaign team.

The outreach, held in Lafia Local Government Area, was organised under the M.A. Adamu Medicare for Renewed Hope Agenda Free Medical Outreach Programme.

Speaking with journalists at the event, Adamu said the initiative was designed to support pregnant women who could not afford some of the basic materials required for childbirth.

He said the programme had been extended to all 147 wards in the state, with Lafia, comprising 13 wards, being the last local government area to benefit.

“What we’ve seen today is part of our programmes we’ve been doing in all the wards in Nasarawa State. It is an empowerment for pregnant women,” Adamu said.

“Most of them don’t have the opportunity to acquire some of these necessary materials for the birth of their children. So, we felt it was necessary to come to their aid by giving them a helping hand.”

The former police chief said about 100 pregnant women were selected from each ward, adding that the selection process was non-partisan.

“In every ward, we have about 100 women and the criteria for selection is random. We don’t care which party you belong to; we don’t care which association you belong to, in as much as you’re pregnant and you’re from that ward, you’ll benefit from it,” he said.

Adamu said the programme had been running for some time, with the Lafia outreach marking its completion across the state.

“It started long ago. We have 147 wards in Nasarawa State and we’ve been to all the wards to do similar thing and this is the last local government, and we have 13 wards here,” he said.

His wife, Hajiya Rukaiya Adamu, popularly known as Kwalliyan Lafia, was also present at the event.

Beyond the medical outreach, the SDP governorship candidate distributed motorcycles to ward coordinators and vehicles to the campaign’s Director-General and other key directorates to strengthen his campaign structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Adamu said the motorcycles would assist ward coordinators in carrying out their assignments, while the vehicles would support the operations of various campaign units across the state.

“For our staff in each ward, today we will give motorcycles so that it will help them carry out their tasks,” he said.

He added that vehicles were also being provided for the women’s wing, medical team, mechanics and operations.

“All of these are brought to help with the campaigns. If we continue, we will see other areas that need campaign items, which will also be provided,” Adamu said.
