Ex-Rep Advises President Muhammadu Buhari On ‘Ponmo’ Consumption Ban

President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to reject the suggestion that the consumption of cow leather, the delicacy called “Ponmo” in the country be banned.

Former House of Representatives member, Hon Bamidele Faparusi who gave the advice said such policy if effected will harm the Southwest economy and throw many people into the labour market.

Faparusi is the immediate past commissioner for public utilities in Ekiti State, many Nigerians, particularly people of the Southwest didn’t only consume the delicacy in large scale, but also trade in it.

The director-general, Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology, NILEST, Zaria, Muhammad Yakubu, had recently made such proposal in Abuja, saying the policy will promote leather production as provided in the Agricultural Research Institute Act of 1975.
