An aviation expert, Dr. Ezekiel J. Musa, has commended the Sokoto State Government for establishing Caliphate Air, describing the initiative as a strategic investment capable of driving economic growth, creating jobs and strengthening regional connectivity.

Speaking with journalists, Musa said the state-owned airline, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria, has significant potential to boost commerce, tourism and investment while meeting the growing demand for air travel across the region.

He also defended the project against criticism that followed the circulation of a viral video of one of the airline’s aircraft, describing the reactions as unfair, premature and based on a poor understanding of the aviation industry’s contribution to economic development.

According to him, Sokoto is not the first state in Nigeria to establish a commercial airline, making the level of criticism directed at Caliphate Air unwarranted.

He dismissed suggestions that the state was unprepared to operate an airline, insisting that the initiative represents a bold step towards diversifying the state’s economy.

“There could hardly be a better time for Sokoto State to invest in aviation as a tool for economic diversification. Airlines do far more than transport passengers; they stimulate trade, tourism, investment, logistics and employment while improving regional connectivity,” he said.

Musa praised the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu for demonstrating the vision to establish the airline, noting that strategic investments of such nature could generate long-term economic benefits for the state.

“As an aviation professional, I understand the economic value of establishing and operating an airline. Beyond improving connectivity, it has the potential to stimulate commerce, attract investment and create employment opportunities for our people,” he added.

He urged residents of Sokoto State to support the airline, expressing confidence that with sound management and sustained commitment, Caliphate Air would evolve into a major contributor to the state’s economy.

According to him, public support, effective management and sustained investment will be critical to ensuring the airline delivers on its promise of enhancing connectivity, promoting business activities and accelerating economic development in Sokoto State.
