FCDA Road Dualisation: TCN Restores Power To Abuja Residents

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the restoration of power to its 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, which serves major parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This is after two weeks of partial blackout due to the relocation of electricity towers and the road dualisation project along Apo axis by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s (FCDA). The two-week relocation work, which commenced on Monday, January 6, 2025, involved dismantling, and reconstructing the towers, as well as restringing power cables.

During the period, areas including Lugbe, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, Christ Embassy Church, American International School, Spring Court, American Embassy Quarters, EFCC HQ, Coca Cola, Railway, FMC, Parts of Apo, Parts of Gudu, Gbazango & environs, Parts of Kubwa, Bwari & environs, Parts of Jahi, Parts of Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi & environs were affected.

General manager, Public Affairs department at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, in a statement on Friday confirmed the development, stating that with the restoration of full bulk power, Abuja DisCo can now provide normal electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, ending the previous load rationing.

 

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is pleased to announce the restoration of full bulk power to its 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, effective Thursday, January 23, 2025.

“This restoration follows the successful relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line (Southern Expressway route), necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s (FCDA) road dualisation project along the Apo axis.

 

With the restoration of full bulk power, Abuja DisCo can now provide normal electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, ending the previous load rationing.

 

“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected electricity consumers during this period,” the statement read.
