FCT Unveils Olisa Egwuatu As Cricket Coach, Consultant

The FCT Cricket Association, in a significant mov to drive its initiative for cricket revival and development in Nigeria’s capital city and beyond, has unveiled a season cricket expert, Mr Olisa Egwuatu, as the technical consultant and development coach.

Mr Egwuatu was unveiled on Monday at the conference room of FCT Sports Council in Area 3, where he was received by the director of sports development, Mr Lukas Istifanus, represented by the deputy director of sports development, Mr Iyiola Ogundele.

Chairman of FCT Cricket Association, Chief Emeka Onyeama, said the appointment of Mr Egwuatu effectively kicked start cricket revival in FCT as he expected to bring his vast experience in coaching and cricket development to bear on the association development program through the school cricket initiative.

The school cricket initiative, according to Onyeama, will involve at the initial phase the selection of schools within the Abuja Municipal Council to act as development centers.

The director of sports development, Mr Lukas Istifanus, represented by the deputy director, Mr Iyiola Ogundele, commended the cricket association for their commitment to development of the sport in FCT and promised to give Mr Egwuatu all the necessary to succeed and help develop cricket in FCT.

Mr Egwuatu, who has served as a consultant to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Africa and also coached Nigeria’s national teams, said he is bringing his experience and personal commitment to help develop cricket in the national capital.

“I’m not promising anything, but I will bring my experience and personal commitment to develop cricket in FCT. We need Abuja to start playing cricket and we intend to take the game to school’s principals and gain their support,” Egwuatu said.
