The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) through its Education Secretariat has revealed plans to start the FCT University of Technology in order to decongest the FCT College of Education, Zuba.

The new FCTA mandate secretary of the education secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, dropped this hint at that college while speaking at the annual staff appreciation and inauguration of deans ceremony.

He said one item on President Bola Tinubu’s agenda is education and the FCTA Education Secretariat through the intervention of the minister, Barr Nyesom Wike would prioritise it.

“We have to create another tertiary education in the nation’s capital to decongest the population in the FCT College of Education Zuba. The establishment of the FCT University of Technology will help to reduce the population and if possible we will even establish a polytechnic to accommodate the large number of youths for their primary, secondary and tertiary education in the nation’s capital,” he said.

Ihayyo added that he would ensure improved funding of physical facilities and capacity building of staff of the institution.

Provost of the college, Dr Sule Mundi, honoured former provosts and other retired senior management staff of the institution.

He acknowledged the long-term contributions of the staff to enable him succeed.

Mundi also revealed that the college has over 80 chief lecturers who are sufficiently qualified to provide leadership in the college.

According to him,  since June 1, 2023 when he started as a substantive provost, some days have been better than others, but overall, the school has recorded some significant accomplishments in staff welfare, infrastructure, maintenance, improvement of college finances, and relationship with others at the education secretariat and TETFund.
