The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as well as Thursday, January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, declared these holidays on Monday through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the core values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, noting that the festive season offers an opportunity for unity and national renewal.
The minister also called on citizens, regardless of their faith or ethnic background, to use the holiday period to pray for peace, improved security and the overall progress of the nation.
He further advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations, while wishing citizens a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
