The federal government has handed over an emergency van to the Bauchi State Government as part of efforts to enhance proactive healthcare services in the state.

LEADERSHIP reports that the initiative, driven by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aims to improve timely access to medical care services and reduce the high rates of maternal and child mortality, a critical issue in Northern Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The van is expected to be active 24/7 to strengthen the capacity of local health facilities to respond swiftly to emergencies, particularly in rural areas.

Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate while handing over the van  emphasised that the move reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the country.

He noted that President Tinubu’s healthcare vision prioritises human capital development through accessible and quality medical services.

Pate added that the emergency van donation is one of several interventions planned to elevate the health sector and ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing life-saving services.

Responding, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed commended the federal government for its continuous support in bolstering the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

He expressed confidence that the emergency van would play a vital role in tackling health challenges, particularly in reducing maternal and infant mortality, which remains a significant concern in Bauchi’s remote communities.

Governor Mohammed announced that the Bauchi government has officially handed over Misau General Hospital to the federal government.

The hospital will be upgraded into a Federal Medical Centre, a move expected to further improve healthcare access and services in Bauchi and neighbouring states.

This strategic transformation is in line with efforts to decentralize and strengthen healthcare facilities across Nigeria.
