Nigerian Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) are to witness a massive transformation as the Federal Government has intensified efforts to integrate the Alphanumeric Postcode System into their operations to make service delivery efficient and effective.

Indications to this development emerged when the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF) Mrs Didi Walson-Jack and other critical stakeholders brainstormed on the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System organised by the Ministry of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy in conjunction with the Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST in Abuja on Thursday.

Speaking on the theme: “Embedding the Nigerian Digital Postcode in public service delivery,” the Head of Service said the integration would lay solid foundations for Nigeria’s digital transformation and prosperity.

Walson-Jack, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service-wide Office, Dr Abdul Sule Garba, said the stakeholders’ engagement was meant to sensitise MDAs on the significance of integrating the Alphanumeric digital postcode system into all institutions of government.

“The authorisation of the Nigerian digital postcode is a strategic initiative that has potential to significantly improve the public administration service delivery and integrity and also digital governance across the country,”Mrs Walson-Jack said.

“The success of this initiative will depend on the collective commitment of all of us that are here today. The Head of Civil Service of the Federation is committed in supporting this initiative that promotes innovation and also, and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the civil service is actually equipped with tools, system and capacities that it will require to meet the involving expectations of citizen in the digital age,” she added.

Minister of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, while inaugurating the Stakeholders Engagement, emphasized that the Alphanumeric Digital Postcode system was designed to push Nigeria’s digital transformation under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr Nadungu Gagare, Bosun said that Nigeria’s digital economy ecosystem is anchored on resilience driven by innovation, technology, data, and collaboration. He added that the Alphanumeric digital postcode initiatives, goes beyond improvements to postal services, which has become a strategic national asset.

Dr Tijani said, “It is a critical digital public infrastructure that supports service delivery, strengthens governance, enhances national security, promotes financial inclusion, improves logistics and e-commerce, facilitates healthcare deliveries, supports educational planning, enables credible census and electoral processes, and provides the geopartial intelligence required for evidence-based policymaking.”

The Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO of NIPOST, Engr Tola Odeyemi, said with the Alphanumeric digital postcode system, NIPOST was building an infrastructure that would help connect every Nigerian location to opportunity, to government services, to commerce, and to inclusion.

“Through the visionary leadership of the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tejani, and the support of the federal government, Nigeria is developing a modern GIS-enabled infrastructure that assigns every addressable location a unique, machine-readable, and geographically anchored postcode.

“We believe it is the foundational layer upon which more efficient governance, smarter public services, and greater economic inclusion can be built.

“Just as digital identity has helped to establish who a citizen is, and digital payments helped us to move values seamlessly, this National Digital Postcode helps us to determine where services, opportunities, and interventions should be delivered,” Engr Odeyemi said.
