flood kills 2 children of same family in Kebbi

Flood caused by a heavy rainfall has claimed two children of the same family at Rugar Fulani Kwanar Hostel in Badariya Area in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

A resident of the area, Comrade Anas, revealed this to our correspondent in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.
According to him, the incident occurred during a downpour in the state.

He named the deceased as Sadiq Aliyu, 7, and Mamuda Aliyu, 10, adding that the children met with their death after they came out of a mosque and were on the way to their home.

Sadiq’s shoe was said to have fallen into the flood and in an attempt to pick it up, he fell into it.
“Thereafter, his brother Mamuda Aliyu who attempted to rescue him was swept off by the flood,” Anas said.

Our correspondent further gathered from an uncle of the deceased’s, Alhaji Haliru, that all efforts by the people in the area to rescue the children failed.

The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, when contacted on phone, said they were yet to receive information on the incident.
