Former England U18 goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, has officially declared his international allegiance to Nigeria, a move now ratified by FIFA.
The 24-year-old London-born Wrexham goalkeeper, whose parents hail from Nigeria, had a notable youth career with England, representing the Three Lions at both Under-15 and Under-18 levels .
Okonkwo’s decision to switch was formally confirmed on FIFA’s change of association platform on Monday, 6th April, making him immediately eligible to represent the Super Eagles.
Having progressed through the esteemed Arsenal academy, Okonkwo gained valuable experience during loan spells with Crewe Alexandra and Austrian side Sturm Graz.
He initially joined Wrexham on loan in 2023, a move that was subsequently made permanent. Since then, he has firmly established himself as the club’s number one, accumulating 119 appearances and playing a pivotal role in Wrexham’s back-to-back promotions.
This season, he has featured 42 times in all competitions, impressively keeping 10 clean sheets in 37 Championship matches.
