Former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.

Gusau secured the party’s ticket after defeating two other contenders in the primary election conducted across the state.

According to the results announced by the Chairman of the Zamfara Governorship Primary Election Committee, Namadi Musa, Gusau polled a total of 35,665 votes to clinch the nomination.

His closest rival, Abdul’mutallab Ahmed Mohammed, scored 15,922 votes, while Shehu Ahmed Musa came third with 7,642 votes.

Namadi Musa said the exercise was conducted peacefully across the state, describing the process as free, fair, and transparent.

He added that the successful completion of the governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives primaries was an indication that the party had become more united and organised ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also commended party members for their conduct and support throughout the exercise.

For the senatorial primaries, the party announced Shehu Rafi as the candidate for Zamfara North, Atiku Abubakar Saleh for Zamfara West, and Mika’ila for Zamfara Central.

According to the committee, the results for the senatorial contests were concluded and announced at their respective zones.

In the House of Representatives primaries, the ADC conducted elections across six federal constituencies.

The winners include Nura Mohammed for Zurmi/Shinkafi, Bashir Abubakar for Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji, Mohammed Mustapha for Bakura/Maradun, Umar Faru for Gummi/Bukkuyum, Isiaka Ibrahim Anka for Anka/Mafara, and Abubakar Abdullahi for Gusau/Ysafai federal constituency.

However, the party noted that no candidate emerged for Maru/Bungudu federal constituency, as no aspirant from the area participated in the primary election.

The state chairman of the ADC, Shehu Maishanu, thanked party members and stakeholders for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the primaries across Zamfara State.

He urged members to remain united, respect party structures, and work towards the success of the ADC in the 2027 general elections.

The ADC is the second political party to conclude and announce its governorship primary results ahead of the 2027 election cycle, following the All Progressives Congress (APC).
