Foundation Seeks Govt Support To Empower Underserved Women

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Pink Fleur Foundation, in partnership with PAGE Initiative, has called for stronger government support to expand women empowerment programmes across Nigeria.

It said collaboration with public institutions would enable more women to achieve financial independence and transform their communities.

At the launch of “One Million Scarves Campaign” in Abuja, the founder of the foundation, Zainab Salihijo, said the initiative, conceived from her financial literacy programme, aims to support 100 women with grants to expand and formalise their businesses while using fashion as a platform to inspire personal transformation and social impact.

She explained that proceeds from the sale of scarves would fund business development and financial empowerment for women. Salihijo urged the federal and state governments to support the initiative through grants and by identifying women in communities who could benefit from the programme.

According to her, the varying needs of women across the country make government partnership essential to delivering targeted interventions with lasting impact.

Salihijo said beneficiaries are selected based on existing businesses or their potential to create positive change in their communities, irrespective of their profession.

She added that the foundation chose to partner with PAGE Initiative because of its track record in empowering women through advocacy and community development. She expressed optimism that the campaign would inspire both beneficiaries and supporters to become part of a movement dedicated to helping women rewrite their stories.
