The executive director and CEO of the foundation, Ms Ada Jabaru, who stated this in a statement, said with AI shaping everything from how we learn, to how we work, the need for digital skills has never been greater.

She further stated that “July 15, 2025, marks the 10th anniversary of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD), and the NISTAD Empowerment Foundation is proud to join the rest of the world in celebrating young people and the importance of equipping them with relevant, future-ready skills.

“This year’s theme, ‘Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills’ is a timely reminder of how much technology is changing our world—and why it is critical that young people are not left behind in the digital revolution.

With artificial intelligence  shaping everything from how we learn to how we work, the need for digital skills has never been greater.

“NISTAD Empowerment Foundation therefore calls on governments at all levels in Nigeria to increase investments in youth employability through artificial intelligence and digital skills.”

Speaking on the foundation and its focus, she said “Our goal at NISTAD is to provide access to education and skills that prepare young people for today’s world of work.

“We are especially focused on making sure girls and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are part of the tech future. We believe they can be leaders and creators in the AI space, not just consumers. The many challenges Nigeria and Africa face, such as insecurity, lack of electricity, water, and low access to health are all challenges that can be overcome or reduced with deployment of AI and digital skills.

“The NISTAD Empowerment Foundation has been actively working across several areas to support youth development and community growth, including: training young people in digital and AI-related skills; running women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship programs; supporting primary healthcare and education and connecting youth to business and job opportunities.”
