Delivering his speech, the president of ICAN, Malam Haruna Yahaya, represented by the northern zonal chairman, Ibrahim Alkali, congratulated Ganiyu Mustapha and his new team and urged them to ensure the impact of professional accountancy continues to be felt in Sokoto and beyond.

“ICAN should continue to be a beacon of hope for financial management as we are poised to further position ICAN through digital technology, especially in today’s dynamic world.”

In his valedictory message, the 5th and outgoing ICAN chairman of Sokoto, Alhaji Ismaeel Sulaiman, said his one year administration has brought significant improvement and recognition to the noble profession in the region.

“We also carried out lots of human capital developments, community interventions, registered a tutored centre in Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi, and developed a digital hosting site for members to be abreast with global developments in the ICAN culture.

However, he added that his greatest achievement was handing over to a very intelligent successor whom he believed would lift the professional association to enviable heights.

In his acceptance speech, the 6th chairman of Sokoto ICAN, Alhaji Ganiyu Mustapha, said he stands on the shoulders of great leaders and has been under their tutelage for some time now.

Reeling out parts of his plans for the professional body, Alhaji Ganiyu said, “It is with profound humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today to accept my investiture as the 6th chairman of ICAN Sokoto and District Society.”

On his vision and strategic direction, Ganiyu promised to, among other things, work on professional excellence and capacity development, prioritise members’ welfare and engagement, encourage students’ and youths’ engagement, facilitate stakeholders’ collaboration and institutional visibility, and engage in community service and national development.
