The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)  Borno State Chapter, has urged Christian faithful in the state to get involved in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Admonishing and encouraging Christian faithful on involvement in politics during the CAN Easter rally in Maiduguri, the CAN Chairman, Most Rev Dr John Bogna Bakeni, urged them to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and register with any of the political parties as the elections draws near.

Bakeni emphasised the importance of voter registration as the first step towards obtaining a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), which is the gateway to effective participation in the democratic process.

The CAN Chairman who is the Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri Catholic Dioceses, urged the faithful not only to join political parties of their choice and participate in their processes, but to desist from detaching themselves as spectators in the political affairs of the State.

Bishop Bakeni said,” Iam encouraging and admonishing Christian faithful in Borno State to get involved in politics. It is not enough to get voter’s card, but must be able to use it and perform their civic responsibility.

” They should join political parties of their choice and participate in the processes. Christians cannot afford to remain detached spectators and watch from afar because decisions and policies are made and shaped that affect their lives.

“They have to get involved into the political space of the State to bring down dividends of democracy to their people at whatever level.”
