Wife of the Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Muhammad Bago, has identified girl-child education as key to societal transformation and prosperity.
She spoke while receiving the Niger State coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir, members, other stakeholders and some female students who participated at the One Million Match rally in commemoration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl-Child.
The governor’s wife maintained that when the girl-child is educated, society becomes stronger and the nation prospers.
She said International Day of the girl-child reminds the world of the possibilities that lie ahead when girls are given opportunities, especially with quality education.
While saying that the rally was a declaration that the government was not relenting until every girl-child in the state is empowered through access to quality education, the governor’s wife listed some of the factors that hamper girl-child education as poverty, cultural beliefs, early marriage and lack of safe environment for learning.
She promised that the state government would however rise against those barriers and create opportunities for the girl-child to thrive.
Earlier, the state coordinator of AGILE, Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir, said the project team had embarked on massive campaigns across the 25 local government areas of the state for parents to enroll their female children in schools.
