The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has congratulated an infection and global health scientist, Dr Adam Hussein Abdullahi, for winning the Collaborative Initiative for Paediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) grant.
Valued at $150,000, the CIPHER grant was awarded to four researchers worldwide after a competitive process involving at least 1,000 applicants.
The Kwara-born Abdullahi, who is the son of the president of Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU), Dr Abdullahi Amanah, is one of the two African recipients of the grant in this cycle.
Abdullahi is a former Harvard Takemi Fellow and Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, with his research areas including SARS-CoV-2 vaccine immunogenicity in West Africa and Mpox transmission risks in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, Governor AbdulRazaq, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, congratulated Abdullahi on the huge feat, which he said was a reward for his years of research and professional commitment to making a difference in the global efforts to tackle HIV pandemic.
The governor urged Abdullahi to remain committed to his humanitarian mission of helping young children lead meaningful lives despite their HIV status.
“We are proud of the achievements of Dr. Adam Hussein Abdullahi, and we wish him many years of greater breakthroughs and recognitions in his field,” AbdulRazaq stated.
