Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has called on the National Assembly to facilitate more funding for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for effective maintenance of federal roads across the country.
The governor made the appeal when the National Assembly House committee on FERMA paid him a courtesy visit during their oversight function.
Governor Namadi noted that effective maintenance was key to sustainable development of infrastructure and adequate funding was needed for achieving the goals.
The governor highlighted some of the federal roads that need serious maintenance in Jigawa but need adequate funding.
He said, the deteriorating condition of Gumel–Megatari road, Birnin Kudu–Gwaram road, Kafin Hausa–Kwanar Liman–Hadejia roads among others was a source of concern for safety and economic development of Nigerians.
The governor however listed the achievements made on the road projects including completion of 25 out of 26 inherited road projects with total distance of 330 km last December and 47 new road project with total distance of 970 km aimed at facilitating movement of goods and services for growth and development.
Chairman of the House Committee on FERMA, Hon. Aderemi Abbas Oseni, commended the Jigawa State government for the strides recorded in road infrastructure and prudent management of resources.
