Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to interfaith harmony and inclusive governance.
The governor stated this when he received the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) during a Christmas homage at the Government House Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed described Bauchi State as a shared home for all residents, stressing that public resources and opportunities belong equally to citizens regardless of religious affiliation.
He said his government remains deliberate and consistent in promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among people of different faiths.
Commending the Christian community for its role in sustaining peace and stability in the state, the governor praised CAN for its constructive engagement with government, noting that such cooperation has helped strengthen unity.
He emphasised that providing support to religious institutions through infrastructure development and welfare initiatives is a core responsibility of governance.
Addressing concerns previously raised by the Christian community, Governor Mohammed expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded, including improvements at the CAN Secretariat.
He assured that his administration would continue to give equal attention to places of worship, youth empowerment programmes, and human capital development across the state.
Speaking on behalf of CAN, the state secretary, Reverend Father Matthew Wakili, thanked the governor for his inclusive leadership, noting that Christians in Bauchi continue to enjoy freedom of worship in a peaceful and secure environment.
Reverend Wakili also commended the administration for supporting developmental projects, appointing Christians into leadership positions, and implementing interventions aimed at assisting vulnerable communities.
He described the relationship between CAN and the Bauchi State Government as one built on trust, dialogue, and mutual respect.
