The Societal Safety Network (SSN) has lauded Dr Muheeba Dankaka, chairperson of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), for introducing sweeping reforms in the commission.

The group said that Dr Dankaka’s tenure at the helm of the FCC represented one of the commission’s most reform-driven and transparent eras.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by its director of public relations, Comr. Suleiman Salahudeen, the Societal Safety Network (SSN) said: “We make bold to state that Dr Muheeba Dankaka’s stewardship at the helm of the FCC represents one of the most reform-driven and transparent eras in the commission’s history. Her tenure has been marked by uncommon courage, sweeping reforms, and a zero-tolerance approach to administrative rascality and internal racketeering that had, for years, plagued the commission.

“Under her leadership, several entrenched malpractices — notably the sale of job slots, contract scams, and internal trading of placement opportunities — were dismantled. This feat earned her both national recognition and expected resistance from those whose fraudulent privileges were disrupted.”

It added that Dr Dankaka has restored dignity, order, and credibility to a once-controversial commission.

It listed some of the reforms to include introducing merit-based placement and transparency-driven procedures in federal character implementation, digitalising FCC Processes, rebranding the FCC’s image, elevating public confidence in its mandate, sanctioning corrupt officers, and sanitising the system of internal racketeering networks.

The group said that Dr Dankaka ensured true representation of all federating units in recruitment exercises, devoid of political, ethnic, or gender bias and carried out a comprehensive upgrade of the FCC National Headquarters in Abuja, creating a more functional, modern, and dignified working environment for staff and stakeholders.

It called on President Bola Tinubu to remain unwavering in his commitment to rewarding sincerity, merit, and dedication to public service.

The group added: “Dr Dankaka’s reappointment will be more than a personal reward — it will serve as a national statement that good people still matter, and that resilient women in power will be protected and appreciated, not punished for doing what is right.

“Dr. Muheeba Dankaka is not a product of political sponsorship. She is a woman of impeccable character who has chosen the hard path of truth over the easy path of compromise. Her time as FCC chairperson remains a turning point in the history of the commission, a woman who straightened the bend and revived an institution drifting toward irrelevance.

“The Societal Safety Network stands firmly behind her, and we urge all patriotic Nigerians, especially women, youth, and public servants, to resist the antics of desperate actors seeking to drag the FCC backwards.

“Let us protect our reformers. Let us defend the progress we have made. And above all, let us not turn our backs on the very women we encourage to lead.”
