The APC Solidarity Group in Bauchi State has strongly opposed the alleged plan by Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group, led by director of programmes and external affairs, IB Muhammad, and secretary, Abubakar Abdullahi, submitted a petition to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda through Bauchi state party chairman Muhammad Hassan Tilde, outlining 10 reasons why the governor should not be admitted into the party.
In the petition, the group stressed the need to protect the party’s strength, credibility, and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It noted that Governor Bala Mohammed, has consistently criticised the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the Federal Government of causing hardship and insecurity in the country, remarks the group said undermine the party’s image.
The group also cited what it described as declining public confidence in the governor’s administration in Bauchi State, alongside existing political rivalries between him and key APC stakeholders, including Isa Yuguda, Yakubu Dogara, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Senator Shehu Buba Umar.
According to the group, many party members have reservations about the governor’s political consistency and long-term loyalty, warning that his admission could trigger internal divisions and weaken party cohesion in the state.
It further argued that there is a growing perception that the governor is disconnected from the grassroots, a situation that could negatively impact the APC’s electoral prospects if he is admitted.
The group added that accommodating him at this critical time may discourage loyal members who have remained committed to the party through difficult periods.
While acknowledging that criticism is part of democracy, the group accused the governor of engaging in what it described as excessive and politically motivated attacks against the APC-led Federal Government.
It maintained that the party must remain focused and united to secure victory for President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Declaring its position, the group stated that the APC is bigger than any individual and insisted that Governor Bala Mohammed, popularly known as “Kaura,” is not welcome in the party.
“As foundation and frontline members of the APC, we believe it is important to address this issue with the seriousness it deserves,” the group said, adding that it joins other party members in expressing concern over the reported defection move.
