Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has congratulated the new chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Hon Muktar Betara, and his deputy, Hon Emeka Chinedu.
This was disclosed in a statement released in Abuja by the executive director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo, who charged the committee to look into the issue of multiple land allocations, especially in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Adebayo said the committee should also look into the area of regulating the real estate sector, as according to him, the consumers of real estate products are not protected.
“A lot of consumers of real estate are falling victim to the hands of those who are not professional real estate developers parading themselves as one,” he added.
He also called on the newly inaugurated committee to look into the problem of unoccupied houses in the FCT, noting that it is time to come up with strategic plans that will reduce unoccupied houses in the FCT.
“As of today, the number of people in need of houses cannot afford the houses available in the market. It will be nice if the government can come up with strategies like property tax to reduce the number of unoccupied houses.
“The committee must do everything possible to support the vision of the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa in restoring the glory of the FCT,” he said.
HDAN pledged its support and collaboration in areas that will bring development to the master plan of the Federal Capital Territory.
HDAN is a pioneer non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, the organisation at present is working on the amendment of some obsolete laws that need to be amended to create an enabling environment for the development of the housing industry.
They are the owners of the Housing Development Programme on AIT, and the recently established, Housing TV Africa on Startimes Channel 149, which are veritable tools used for advocacy to enable development in the sector.
The board of the organisation consists of major leaders who have contributed to the development of the housing sector.
