In a bid to strengthen ties and foster peaceful coexistence, the Emirate Councils of Hadeja in Jigawa State and Katagum in Bauchi State have pledged to lead traditional efforts in addressing border community challenges.
The emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruq II, and the emir of Hadeja, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, made this commitment during an Interstate Boundary Dispute Meeting at the Hadeja Emir’s Palace in Jigawa State.
The event, spearheaded by the National Boundary Commission (NBC), focused on resolving disputes related to embankments and transborder farming activities.
Surveyor Yusuf Ibrahim Jalo, NBC’s Team Leader, emphasised the initiative’s goal of resolving longstanding border issues through boundary tracing and demarcation, with active input from traditional rulers.
Speaking at the meeting, Bauchi State deputy governor Muhammad Auwal Jatau, represented by his special assistant on Boundary Matters, Alhaji Ahmad Garba, lauded the NBC’s efforts.
He noted that Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration has prioritized open-door policies to maintain harmony with neighbouring states, including Jigawa, which shares boundaries with 11 Bauchi local governments.
The NBC team has inspected 30 boundary communities between the two states as part of ongoing efforts to find lasting solutions to boundary disputes.
This renewed commitment by the Hadeja and Katagum emirates highlights the critical role of traditional leadership in rebuilding agriculture and ensuring peace in border regions.
