The leadership of Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) to begin to fight against corruption in the oil and gas industry.

This is even as the organisation described and accused the apex body, Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) as house full of corruption, adding that NNPC holds 70 per cent of corruption in Nigeria.

Urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to beam his fight against corruption in NNPC, the chairman of HEDA, Mr Olanrewaju Suraju while speaking with LEADERSHIP, shortly after the presentation of magazine, said: “Spotlighting the Oil & Gas, review of the 2020|2021 Marginal Fields Bid Licensing Round in Nigeria, Suraju noted unless the NNPC is held accountable to oil and exploration crude oil, the sector will continue to move around in circles.

“NNPC being a house of corruption which must be made to account for both the revenue and expenses in telling the general public what is being generated in terms of quantity of crude, how much being consumed locally, how much being realised as revenue and how such is spent, and how oil and gas is being distributed, then reduction of corruption as concerning oil and gas will continue unabated.

“As 70 per cent of corruption in Nigeria is traceable to NNPC alone, Tinubu should kickstart war against corruption in the place.”

According to Suraju, Tinubu should ensure genuine accountability by setting up public participation and proper coordination system to create smooth operation in the sector. He should ensure NNPC disclose all its operations.

The launch of the magazine, according to him,  became imperative based on the continued set backs being recorded in the oil and gas industry and also to find a way to halt spillages in the oil and gas.
