The new chairman of the board gave the warning in Enugu yesterday during a maiden meeting with all the chief medical officers in general and cottage hospitals in the state.

Odo stated that the day marked a great turn around in the board, stating that he would no longer tolerate the attitude most of the medical officers display while carrying out their duty.
He, however, appreciated them for the work they had done so far noting that their efforts was not good enough to save people’s life.

Odo frowned at the abysmal management of the hospitals under them and vowed to withhold the salary of anybody bent on continuing in the old way.
The medical practitioner explained the need for the chief medical officers to take full charge of the hospital under their watch and to ensure that positive measures are being taken.

He said he would not tolerate cases of dereliction of duty, absenteeism, lateness to work and out right corrupt practices.

Odo urged them to always sustain and maintain their various hospitals, adding that how functional their hospitals were, would determine how they would be rated.
He hinted that the essence of the meeting was to ensure effective and efficient health care service delivery to all Enugu people.

The chairman said that Gov. Peter Mba led administration desires to ensure that secondary health care should be at the same par with its contemporary in the world.
