The company showcased the latest advancements in solar technology at an event in Abuja, which was attended by industry leaders and experts. The company stated that the the goal was to drive sustainability and energy efficiency across Africa.

Director of Huawei Digital Power Nigeria, Mr. Cruise Ni, outlined the significant strides in solar energy over the past two years. He noted a drastic reduction in the price of photovoltaic (PV) panels and energy storage solutions. He said, “The price of solar panels has dropped by 50% since January 2023, primarily due to a decline in the cost of raw materials. The annual storage capacity of solar energy reached 515 gigawatts in 2023, while energy storage system capacity hit 250 gigawatt hours worldwide.”

He added that the demand for solar energy solutions continues to grow, particularly in regions like Africa, where grid coverage is limited. Africa’s Energy Storage System (ESS) market has reached 1.3 gigawatt-hours, driven by increasing electricity demand.

Solution Architect at Huawei Digital Power Nigeria, Jeremiah Ejirogene Aminode, emphasised the importance of safety, reliability, and engineering excellence in delivering stable electricity. “The rise in diesel and electricity prices, as well as the rapid increase in battery costs, have made solar energy an essential solution for Nigeria’s energy challenges,” Aminode said.

During his presentation, Aminode also addressed the misconceptions surrounding solar technology. He cited poor installations as a significant deterrent for businesses and individuals to adopt solar energy solutions.

“You can have a good product, but if it is not installed properly, it won’t deliver the desired results,” Aminode noted, referring to the challenges faced by industries in Cameroon.
