With seven days remaining for Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, to respond to the allegations raised against them by the State House of Assembly, there are strong indications that the duo are yet to receive the impeachment notices.
Twenty-six members of the House had on Thursday, January 8, 2026, signed impeachment notices against Fubara and Odu, who they accused of gross misconduct.
On Monday, two of the lawmakers, Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo and Hon. Peter Abbey, backed out of the impeachment proceedings and urged their colleagues to tow the line of amicable resolution of the face-off between the executive and the legislature.
However, in an interview, the chairman, House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Dr Enemi Alabo George, insisted that Fubara and Odu had been served with the impeachment notices.
But, speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, the press secretary to the deputy governor, Owupele Benibo, said he was not aware that his principal had been served any impeachment notice.
Benibo said: “I am not sure that the deputy governor has been served the Impeachment notice. Where will they see her to serve her? If something like that happens, I will let you know.”
Also speaking with LEADERSHIP on the condition of anonymity, a top state government official, said Fubara had not been in the state for some time and could not have received any notice.
He said: “I have to find out but I am not aware of that for now. I am not aware if he has signed or not signed. He was out of town and he just came back.
“He returned to Port Harcourt early Sunday morning and after the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Church service, he went back to Abuja and has not returned since then.”
