The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday publish the personal particulars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other candidates contesting the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, in line with preparations for the 2027 general election.

The publication, scheduled under the Commission’s revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, will also cover candidates seeking election to the Senate and House of Representatives across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar is contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Obi is the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

INEC said the publication is a statutory requirement intended to promote transparency and allow members of the public to scrutinise the information submitted by candidates ahead of the elections.

Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, provides that: “The Commission shall, within 21 days of the receipt of the personal particulars of the candidate, publish same in the constituency where the candidate intends to contest the election.”

The Electoral Act also allows members of the public to obtain certified true copies of nomination forms, affidavits and other documents submitted by candidates.

Section 29(4) states,”Any person may apply to the Commission for a copy of nomination form, affidavit and any other document submitted by a candidate at an election and the Commission shall, upon payment of a prescribed fee, issue such person with a certified true copy of the document within 14 days.”

In addition, Section 29(5) provides that an aspirant who participated in a political party’s primary and has reasonable grounds to believe that information supplied by the party’s candidate regarding constitutional qualifications is false may institute an action at the Federal High Court seeking a declaration to that effect.

The publication follows the conclusion of political party primaries and the submission of nomination forms by political parties.

According to INEC’s revised timetable, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will begin later in accordance with the Commission’s schedule.
