The 16 local government authorities in Kwara State have donated 320 motorcycles to members of the vigilance groups across the state.
Similarly, the state government has donated another set of 150 off- road motorcycles to the Sobi Cantonment of the Nigerian Army.
LEADERSHIP reports that the motorcycles were meant to aid the mobility of the local vigilantes in the thick forest where bandits and kidnappers usually hibernate.
The senior special assistant to Kwara State governor on Security, Alh Muideen Aliyu confirmed the distribution of the 20 motorcycles to each of the 16 local government areas in the state.
He said the gesture of the local government chairmen was complimentary to the efforts of the state government in maintaining peace across the state.
The senior special assistant to the governor on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi said:” The motorcycles are expected to enhance troops’ mobility and effectiveness, particularly in rugged terrains such as forests, where non-state actors may be hiding with intent to destabilise the peaceful atmosphere of the state.
“This strategic intervention followed recent reports of the disturbances of non state actors in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North. “
